ICT

Information and communication technology (ICT) is the convergence of computing, telecommunications, and governance policies regarding information access, protection, processing, transfer, and storage. In some parts of the world, ICT is used synonymously with information technology (IT), although the two terms may have slightly different meanings in different contexts.

For example, in the United States, the term IT is used when technology is discussed in relation to business operations, while the term ICT is more commonly used in educational and governmental contexts. ICT has become an umbrella term in many parts of the world as analog links have replaced digital communication links. There is a growing demand for professionals with the knowledge and skills to manage the convergence of these links. To that end, ICT professionals can be expected to work in positions focused on improving digital and data literacy and leveraging new technologies to streamline outdated communication channels. This includes exploring how new technologies such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) can support traditional technology and communication theories.
